Top pharma companies worldwide by number of originated drugs 2024

As of beginning of 2024, Chinese company Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals had 138 originated drugs, making it the company with the highest number of originated drugs worldwide that year.

Top pharma companies

In 2022, AbbVie was the pharmaceutical corporation that generated the highest revenue within the United States, namely over 45 billion U.S. dollars. Pfizer and Bristol-Myers Squibb stood in second and third, earning around 43 billion and 32 billion U.S. dollars, respectively.

Generics

Between 2017 and 2018, Teva was the top generic drug manufacturing company in the United States in terms of unbranded generics revenue. During this period, the company generated close to six and a half billion U.S. dollars in revenue. Sandoz stood in third place with almost four billion U.S. dollars. While the proportion of branded drugs versus generic drug prescriptions dispensed was much more balanced in 2005, around 89 percent of prescriptions were for unbranded generics in 2021. That year, only about eight percent of prescriptions were for brand-name drugs.
